An Afternoon with Richard & Leah Rothstein

An Afternoon with Richard & Leah Rothstein

Thursday, November 2, 2023 (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM) (PDT)

Description

Richard Rothstein's 2018 book The Color of Law exposed how deliberate government policies led to residential segregation and its wide-ranging social and economic consequences. In Just Action, Richard Rothstein and housing policy expert Leah Rothstein provide practical strategies for local groups to address segregation in their communities, for improved housing opportunities. The presentation will be followed by Q&A.

After the book discussion, we will come together to celebrate the historic passage of our own HB 1474, the Covenant Homeownership Account & Program Act (CHAP). This legislative victory will help close the racial homeownership gap and address the historical impacts of housing discrimination in our state. Join HDC and our legislative bill sponsors to learn more about our local community efforts and what's next on the path towards change.

Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law is available via Elliott Bay Book Company. Use the promo code "HDC" at checkout for 10% off until November 10.

If you plan to attend, please be sure to register through the Housing Development Consortium. Space is limited.
