New Construction: Understanding the Factors Driving Up Housing Costs and Potential Solutions
Housing costs in Washington State continue to rise as supply struggles to keep pace with population growth and changing demographic needs. At the same time, the cost of producing new housing has increased significantly due to a combination of financing, regulatory, site development, permitting, legal, labor, and material cost factors.
This course explores the major drivers of new construction housing costs and examines how those costs impact housing affordability and supply. Industry experts will provide insight into current market conditions, recent legislative changes, construction financing, site development challenges, permitting processes, and legal lot structures that influence residential development feasibility and cost.
The course concludes with an interactive panel discussion exploring innovative solutions that may help increase housing production, improve affordability, reduce development timelines, and address barriers facing builders and developers. Attendees will gain a broader understanding of the economic, regulatory, and practical challenges associated with creating new housing in Washington State.
