This class teaches a practical, systematic approach to evaluating land for development so students can identify opportunities, avoid costly mistakes, and advise clients with confidence. Through real world case studies and current Washington housing legislation, students learn how zoning, site conditions, and market forces affect what can realistically be built and how to make informed go- or no-go decisions.

Instructor: Jeff McCann
Jeff McCann is an affiliate instructor at the University of Washington, a real estate broker, and a land use consultant with deep experience in land development and feasibility analysis. He holds dual master’s degrees from the University of Washington in Real Estate and Construction Management, providing a strong foundation in land use planning and development. Jeff has helped acquire, entitle, develop, and sell more than 2,000 acres of land across the Puget Sound region and statewide. He brings broad development expertise with a specialized focus on Accessory Dwelling Units and regularly teaches courses on ADUs and land feasibility. Jeff is also the owner of Outdoor Perspectives LLC, where he provides land use planning and development consulting services.
